Making Your Website Temporarily Unavailable (Maintenance Mode)
At times, you may find yourself needing to make your website temporarily unavailable so that you can do some major changes or a series of small changes without people coming and seeing the unfinished work before its ready.
This tutorial will show you how to install a maintenance plugin on your site and then use it.
Installing and Activating the Plugin
- To install the plugin, log into your website and go to the advanced dashboard:
- On the left-hand side, hover over the Plugins tab and select Add New
- You will come to a screen with several plugins on it. Click on the one That says WP Maintenance Mode.
- Click the Install Now button
Once installed, click to activate it.
After it has been activated, hover over the Settings tab on the left-hand side of the dashboard and go to WP Maintenance Mode
Feel free to go through each tab to make any changes you want to the plugin's settings and, if you don't feel comfortable changing something or if you aren't sure what it is, then don't worry about changing it.
Once you're done with the settings, mark the radio button for Activated and then save your settings to turn it on.
Once you have finished making changes to your site, you can turn off the Maintenance Mode plugin simply by going back into the plugin's settings and choosing Deactivated.
